C/2003 G1 (LINEAR)
This comet was, as with most
of the LINEAR comets, first reported as an asteroid by the LINEAR team on April 8th
2003. The comet was
magnitude 17. As on many previous occasions a number of observers
found the object to be cometary. This is a distant
comet that was receding from perihelion when discovered. C/2003 G1 (LINEAR)
passed perihelion at 4.92AU on February 3rd 2003 and
appears to be an Oort Cloud
object.
The light curve
The
light curve shows a small degree of brightening after perihelion as the
geocentric distance decreased. This was expected to end by mid-June and change
to a slow fade.
